Awnair Awnings, Building Shade Since 1985

Awnings in Albuquerque, NM: Patio Covers, Carports and Shade Structures Built for High-Desert Sun

Awnair Awnings builds awnings, patio covers, carports and pergolas for homes and businesses in Albuquerque. Sun here is relentless nine months of the year, monsoon storms arrive fast in July and August, and spring wind tests anything bolted to a wall. Shade structures have to be anchored and pitched for that, not just look good on the day they go up. We have worked in this market since 1985 and cover Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia counties. Call (505) 294-1371 to talk through your patio, carport or windows.

Awning Installation in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and the East Mountains

From one window awning to a full patio roof, we build shade for Albuquerque homes and businesses. Fabric or aluminum. Attached to the house or freestanding on posts. Solid cover, lattice, or something in between. What suits your place depends on the wall you have to work with, your roofline and which direction the heat comes from.

Awning
Shade for entries, storefronts and patios that stops the sun before it hits glass or brick, and gives the front of the building some shape.
See awning options for Albuquerque homes and businesses
Carports
Cover for vehicles that have no garage space, keeping paint, dashboards and windshields out of constant high-desert sun and summer hail.
See carports and vehicle covers
Alumawood
The look of painted wood beams without the repainting. Alumawood does not check, split or warp in dry air the way real lumber does.
See low-maintenance Alumawood shade structures
Patio Covers
A roof over the patio makes the back of the house usable in July, and keeps monsoon rain off the table and the grill.
See patio cover designs and layouts
Window Awnings
Shade the glass on west and south walls and the room behind it stays cooler, which takes load off the refrigerated air or swamp cooler.

Lattice Covers
Broken shade instead of a solid roof. Lattice cools a patio while still letting light and air through to plants below.

Awning

Awnings block sun at the wall, which is where it does the most damage in Albuquerque. West-facing entries, south windows and storefront glass take the worst of the afternoon heat from late spring through September. An awning over that opening keeps the interior cooler and slows fading on floors and furniture. We build for both houses and commercial buildings, in fabric or metal, sized to the opening and anchored for the wind we get in March and April.

Carports

A carport keeps sun, hail and wind-blown grit off vehicles parked in the open. Plenty of Albuquerque homes have a garage full of storage and a truck sitting on the driveway, and UV at this elevation is hard on clear coat, dash plastic and tires. Our carports go up attached to the house or freestanding, with posts set and footings sized for the span. They also work for RV parking, fleet vehicles and equipment at commercial sites.

Alumawood

Alumawood gives you wood-grain beams and rafters in aluminum, so the structure keeps its finish without sanding and repainting every few years. Dry desert air is hard on real lumber: it splits, checks and opens at the joints. Alumawood does not. It works for patio covers, pergolas and carports, comes in several colors, and stays cooler underfoot and overhead than bare metal. Ask about solid roof panels, lattice, or a combination of both.

Patio Covers

A patio cover turns a back slab nobody uses in summer into the best room in the house. In Albuquerque that means real shade from May through September and a dry spot when monsoon storms blow through in the afternoon. Covers can attach to the fascia or wall of the house, or stand on their own posts out in the yard. Choose a solid roof for full shade, an insulated roof panel for heavier sun, or lattice to keep things open.

Window Awnings

Window awnings are the cheapest square footage of shade you can buy. Shading the glass stops heat before it enters the room, which matters most on the west and south sides of older Albuquerque homes with wide picture windows. Cooling equipment runs less. Curtains and flooring fade slower. They also give a plain stucco elevation some depth and color. We size each awning to the window and the angle of the sun it has to handle.

Lattice Covers

Lattice covers give filtered shade rather than a solid roof. That suits patios, decks and garden areas where you still want light coming through, and it lets the low winter sun reach the back of the house when you want the warmth. Air moves through lattice, so the space underneath does not trap heat. Vines and hanging plants do well on it. We build lattice in Alumawood or aluminum, attached or freestanding, for homes and commercial courtyards.

Pergolas

A pergola defines an outdoor area without closing it in. In xeriscaped Albuquerque yards, a pergola over a gravel patio or seating area gives the space structure and a reason to be out there. Ours can stand alone in the yard, tie into an existing patio cover, or frame an entry at a restaurant or office. Aluminum and Alumawood hold up to sun and wind far better than untreated wood in this climate.

Screen Rooms

A screen room lets you sit outside on a summer evening without the bugs, which is worth a lot near the bosque and in irrigated valley neighborhoods. Screened walls under a solid or lattice roof also cut wind-driven dust in spring and keep leaves and cottonwood fluff off the furniture. We build screen rooms onto existing patios and as part of new patio cover projects, for houses and for commercial patios.

Full Shade Covers

Full shade covers use a solid roof panel, so nothing gets through. That is the right call for a west-facing patio, a play area, or any spot that bakes from noon onward. Insulated roof panels add another layer against heat, and skylights can be set into the roof where you still want daylight at the back of the house. Rain runs off instead of pooling on the slab. We build these attached to the home or freestanding.

Partial Shade Covers

Partial shade covers sit between an open yard and a solid roof. Spaced slats or lattice knock down the harshest midday sun while letting light, air and a view of the sky through. Homeowners pick them for patios that already get some afternoon relief, for garden areas, and for restaurant and office courtyards. We build them in aluminum and Alumawood, and can combine a solid section over the dining area with lattice over the rest.

About Us

An Awnings Contractor Based in Albuquerque

Awnair Awnings has been building outdoor structures in Albuquerque since 1985. Our shop is at 9510 Euclid Ave NE, and we work across Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia counties: the city, Rio Rancho, the South Valley, Los Ranchos, Sandia Heights, the East Mountain communities and down through Los Lunas, Bosque Farms and Peralta. Awnings, patio covers, carports, pergolas, lattice, screen rooms and full or partial shade covers. Phones are open Monday through Friday, 8am to 7pm.

An Albuquerque Address

Our shop sits at 9510 Euclid Ave NE in the Northeast Heights, so site visits around the metro are a short trip, not a road trip.

Planned Around Your Space

Sun angle, roof pitch, wall type and where the posts can land all shape the design. We look at those before anything gets ordered.

Motorized Retractable Patio Screens for Albuquerque Patios

Motorized retractable patio screens drop at the push of a button and roll back into a housing when you want the view again. On a covered patio they handle the three things that chase people indoors here: low afternoon sun from the west, wind-blown dust in spring, and mosquitoes on a July evening. They work with solid roofs, insulated panels and screen rooms. Call (505) 294-1371 and we'll go over what fits your patio.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Awnair Awnings?

Awnair Awnings has built awnings, patio covers, carports, pergolas and screen rooms for Albuquerque homes and businesses since 1985. We know what this climate does to a structure: UV that chalks paint, monsoon runoff that has to go somewhere, and spring wind that finds every weak anchor. We work the metro and the counties around it, from the Heights and the South Valley to Rio Rancho, Tijeras and Los Lunas.

In Business Since 1985:

Awnair Awnings has been installing awnings and shade structures in Albuquerque since 1985, through decades of local sun, hail and monsoon seasons.

Local Shop, Local Service:

We work out of 9510 Euclid Ave NE and serve Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia counties, so the metro area and the East Mountains are all within our normal range.

Residential and Commercial:

Backyard patios, window awnings, RV and fleet carports, restaurant courtyards and storefront awnings all fall within the work we do.

Alumawood and Aluminum:

Alumawood and aluminum keep their finish in dry desert air instead of splitting, checking and needing repainting the way exposed lumber does.

Benefits

What Shade Does for an Albuquerque Property

Shade changes how much of your property you actually use. A covered patio is usable at 4pm in July. A shaded window keeps the room behind it cooler. A carport keeps the sun off the truck. Here is what homeowners and business owners get out of it.

Your Questions Answered

Your Questions Answered

Most people ask us the same three things: permits, what holds up in this sun, and how far we travel. Answers below. If yours isn't here, call (505) 294-1371 Monday through Friday, 8am to 7pm.

Usually, yes. Attached patio covers and carports in Albuquerque generally need a building permit, issued by the city's planning and permitting office, and homes in unincorporated Bernalillo County permit through the county instead. Setbacks and lot coverage matter too, and some Sandia Heights and Rio Rancho neighborhoods have HOA design rules on top of that. Confirm the requirements for your address before work starts.
Aluminum and Alumawood hold up best for permanent shade structures in Albuquerque. Intense UV and very dry air are hard on wood, which splits and needs repainting, while aluminum keeps its finish and sheds monsoon rain and hail. Fabric awnings still make sense over windows and entries where you want color and a lighter look. We can walk you through both.
Yes. Awnair Awnings serves Albuquerque plus Rio Rancho, the South Valley, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, Sandia Heights, Cedar Crest, Sandia Park, Tijeras, Chilili, Los Lunas, Bosque Farms, Peralta and Meadow Lake. That covers Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia counties. Call (505) 294-1371 to check your address.

We are very pleased with our new pergola. It seems to have excellent build quality and looks like the sample pictures we were shown. We really appreciate Bud and his crew. Bud, the owner, is very professional, easy to communicate with, not pushy, and quick to answer questions. To me he seems "old school" in that he prefers quality/taking time to do the job right, over quantity. Thank you!

Awnair did an excellent job at rebuilding my porch and side stoop. Bud used the materials I wanted and built it very well and stable. He took his time to do the job correctly, and I’m so glad the other bids I got from individuals fell through. They wouldn’t have done a better job. He even replaced some light fixtures I wanted while completing the porch. The price was reasonable in my opinion for everything done. I would call Bud again for any job within his scope. I’m very happy with the outcome.

I couldn't be happier with the awnings installed and can't recommend Awnair Awnings enough. Bud and his team arrived ahead of schedule, worked efficiently, and were all friendly. The awnings are sturdier than I had anticipated and house interior is already cooler !!

Awnair Awnings is a superb business to deal with. Bud and his crew are professional, informative, knowledgeable, punctual, trustworthy, responsive, and personable. They installed for us a relatively large aluminum and steel free-standing pergola in the backyard. We absolutely love it and we use it all the time. We recommend them very highly and give an excellent rating, five out of five! It’s such a pleasure dealing with them. Ilonka and Emile

We lost our older aluminum front porch awning due to a recent hailstorm in the East Mountains. Bud and his crew at Awnair were terrific. He was able to match and replace our old awning pans with much thicker, impact resistant pans with better weatherproofing/sealing and more securely mounted to our porch and house. It looks fantastic, and he was able to do it at a price that worked for us with insurance. The guys were professional, did the work in the time they said it would take and cleaned up beautifully afterwards. Bud is personable, down to earth, a straight shooter who does what he says. A great guy and team to work with. Bruce

Bud and his team come with the highest of recommendations. Professional, timely, communicative, and exceeded expectations on what was promised. We will definitely be coming back to Awnair for anything else they offer. If we could give more than 5 stars we would.
